Project Description

Afrobeat, a genre of music born out of the jazz rhythms of the legendary Nigerian musician Fela Kuti, is a testament to the rich cultural heritage of Africa. Inspired by this iconic sound, I set out to create an authentic piece of artwork that embodies the essence of African folklore and originality.

The fabric I chose for this project is a regal West African cloth that is often used in wedding and engagement ceremonies. Its intricate geometric patterns are a nod to the natural shapes found in African landscapes, and its use in this artwork adds a touch of elegance and sophistication. The triangular, rectangular, and hexagonal shapes in the fabric are reminiscent of the cubist movement, pioneered by artists such as Paul Cezanne and Pablo Picasso. These shapes represent a fusion of African and European art, and they serve as a powerful symbol of the interconnectedness of cultures.

As I worked on this project, I sought to infuse it with the vibrant energy and spirit of Afrobeat. The result is a stunning piece of artwork that captures the essence of this genre and celebrates the beauty and diversity of African culture. Whether viewed from afar or up close, this artwork is sure to leave a lasting impression on all who behold it.
